How to Start
Just follow these 5 simple steps below to get started.
1) Get out your local telephone book or go to yellowpages.com and search used car dealers in your area.
Now with the way today’s market is with automotive financing you want to find dealers that cater to people with challenged credit and don’t heavily rely on credit scores.
You see them all the time on TV and the radio. “Bad Credit” “No Credit” “Any Credit” Everyone drives. You get the point.
I want you to call 10 dealerships and ask to speak with a salesman.
Note * Dealerships pay differently. Some are progressive. Example. First referral is $50, Second is $200 and so on. You do not want those. You want a dealer that pays a Flat rate. Ex. $300.00 , $350.00 or $400.00 per referral.
When you get a salesman on the phone just follow the script below.
Hello, My name is ______________. I know someone that is interested in purchasing a car today. Do you offer a paid referral program. If so how much do you pay per referral.
If yes: Get their office, dealership, cell number , website address and approval requirements ( proof of income, valid driver’s license etc). Then give them all your contact info. Tell them you will be in touch shortly.
If no: Thank them for their time and move on to the next dealer.
Thats it. Pretty simple right…
2) After you called all 10 dealers choose only the ones that pay the flat rate referral fee. Keep the info you collected from them in your cell phone, contact manager or even in a notebook if you have it.
These will be the salesman that you will be sending your customers to. So get to know them because you will need them in the next step.
3) You have two choices for this step. Contact the salesman that you chose to work with in step 2 to get a current inventory sheet of the vehicles that they have in stock .Ask them to fax or email it to you or just go to their website to get descriptions of the cars and photos.
Or
You can place a generic ad with a different title like the one below with a description about the car ex, pics, miles, requirements etc.

4) Now it’s time to place your ads. They should be very short and never list the full price just the make, model, mileage, picture and your phone number. Yes your phone number (more details in step 5 below).
There are only 2 places online that I use to place ads because they are free and they are the most visited classified sites in the world.
5) After placing your ad, when a customer calls, you don’t want to get into specifics about the car, only what you know ( make, model, down payment etc). Remember your job is to only set the appointments and let the salesman handle the details.
Get their contact information and schedule a convenient time to meet and greet them at the dealership. Then forward their information over to your salesman.
Why meet them? Until you establish a relationship with your salesman, I’m sure you will be skeptical about if they really came or if they actually bought a car.
